ONLY BELIEVE BY T.B. JOSHUA

ONLY BELIEVE by the tb T.B. JOSHUA T.B. JOSHUA Prophet T.B. Joshua encouraged viewers worldwide this weekend when he stated that we must be awake to the fact of what Jesus said in Mark 5:36, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe’. If you can believe, the worry and anxiety vanishes. Some human plan or your mind may come between you and God’s Word but rest upon what God says, ‘If you can believe’. The kind of rest I am talking about is real, genuine, natural. It is not a pretentious calm, unnatural self restraint, acting as if nothing has happened. If our hearts are uneasy and restless, if we are afraid of this and that, this shows we have not yet believed. We must believe and rest unconditionally and absolutely upon the Word of God. Take note – faith does not rest in itself; God is the place where faith rests. This is our rest. Prophet T.B. Joshua continued by stating, “As for me and my house, I have no other refuge than this command of Jesus, ‘Only believe’ ”. With these words ringing in their hearts, the congregation was energised in their faith and listened to testimonies of those who received the end to their worry and anxiety through the medium of the Anointing Water. INJURED SPINAL CORD RESTORED MARY NANYANGWE [ SPINAL CORD ] MARY NANYANGWE [ SPINAL CORD ] Mary Nanyangwe had been involved in an accident on her way from her home in Zambia to Botswana and had experienced a terrible spinal cord injury and fracture in her knee. The doctors in Botswana gave her a large waist corset and a walker to protect her spinal cord. She was bedridden and could not turn her back or neck. The doctors booked her for an operation, telling her that the operation may leave her paralysed for life. If not, she would spend 2 years in the hospital before she would be able to walk. A nurse found her crying one day and connected Emmanuel TV in the hospital room for her to watch. She began watching and saw the Anointing Water. The nurse then brought her the Anointing Water and she ministered it the day before she was to go for the operation. In the morning, the doctor called and told her that the operation had been rescheduled. She rejoiced and continued to minister the Anointing Water. Before the operation, they redid her x-rays. The doctors had wanted to take T11 bone and put in a plate. The result of the x-ray showed that the bone of T11 started coming out all by itself. They were amazed and cancelled the operation! That night, she dreamt that Prophet T.B. Joshua, standing on the altar, was holding three plates. He showed her the one the doctors wanted to fix and said, “This is what the doctors want to operate on but God said I should do the operation myself”. When she woke up, she was immediately able to stand up, bend and walk! Not only was her spinal cord healed but her knee was also restored! Everything that had been damaged was restored, in Jesus’ name through the medium of the Anointing Water and a woman, once paralysed on a hospital bed, walked and moved freely in front of the congregation, encouraging all in their faith for a miracle! HEALING IS JUST LIKE BREATING – HEALED OF 10 YEARS OF SLEEP APNEA AGYEI BOATENG [SLEEP APNEA] AGYEI BOATENG [SLEEP APNEA] Agyei Boateng, a businessman from Ghana came with the problem of sleep apnea which he had suffered from for 10 years. He used a breathing machine every night and the doctors told him he must use it for the rest of his life. If he did not use it, he would stop breathing in the night. He went to many different hospitals around the world for a solution but the only solution was the breathing machine. His daughter introduced him to Emmanuel TV where they saw the power of God in action. He then accompanied his daughter to The SCOAN where he was arranged in the prayer line. Prophet T.B. Joshua met them in the prayer line and gave his daughter the Anointing Water to spray on her father. The prophet then gave the Anointing Water to him to spray on himself. As he sprayed it, he received his healing. Instantly, he removed the breathing machine and breathed freely. That night, he slept peacefully and deeply for the first time in 10 years without the machine! Joshua's “Prophecies For Individuals For 2013”, in which he prophesied that 2013 would bring a boom for those involved in agricultural and foodstuff businesses. AN ASTONISHING APPOINTMENT TRINIDAD ROBERT TRINIDAD ROBERT Trinidad Robert was working as an English and Spanish translator but had been jobless for 2 years. She was also pregnant during that period and life was very hard for her. Her sister introduced her to Emmanuel TV and invited her to watch with her. When Prophet T.B. Joshua began the viewer’s prayer, she prayed along and touched the screen of the TV. She suddenly felt vibrations all over her body. The following morning, she received a phone call from a subcontractor at the American Embassy that she should come to the embassy for an interview. She was worried about her appearance because she was nine months pregnant and would be interviewing with smart, well-dressed ladies. After the interviews, they were all leaving the embassy together. As she walked out with the smart-looking ladies, she received a phone call that she should quickly come back inside the embassy. As she entered, they congratulated her and told her that she had the job! She started work the next day and after working for only 6 days, the embassy told her they were sending her to Spain to deliver her baby, at their own expense. She spent one month in Madrid, delivered her baby and returned to the job they kept for her while she was gone. After some months of work, she was able to build a five bedroom house for her and her child in Equatorial Guinea. She testified that this was a major miracle in her life as previously, she was living in a one-room stick house. She also began construction on a house in Nigeria and showed photos of her two houses and the car she owns in Nigeria. She placed her hand on the screen during the prayer and suddenly began to vomit. Later that day, she tried to drink a bottle of alcohol. She was no longer able to stand the smell or taste and found herself vomiting again. Since that day, she has not had any drink of alcohol. The prayer she joined with Prophet T.B. Joshua took place four years ago and she has been free for that entire period of time! Upon taking candle in his hands and putting it to his mouth, he explained that he could not eat it as it was meant for bringing light to a dark place, not for consuming. Glory be to God, another captive of satan has been set free! This addiction caused her the spirit of anger. Anytime she was angry, the evil spirit would speak to her heart to destroy things. There was even a time the evil spirit drove her to take a knife and attempt to stab her brother. Her mother grabbed the knife from her and her plan was destroyed. Full of anger, she heard the evil spirit again speak to her to eat another portion of the moulded cement block to calm her down. This was how her mother discovered that she was addicted to eating moulded cement blocks. CEMENT BLOCKS ADDICTION CEMENT BLOCKS ADDICTION As one of the wise men prayed for her, the chain that satan had used to connect her to himself was broken, in Jesus’ name. After deliverance, she attempted to eat moulded cement blocks but she immediately spat it out, stating that it was bitter and hurt her teeth. To God be the glory; she is delivered! “I SLAPPED THE GROUND AND A GUN APPEARED” – DELIVERANCE TESTIMONY Fourteen year old Justin had led the life of a top pupil, always working hard to stay at the top of his class until the age of eleven when he was initiated into a secret cult in his school. He hungered for more evil powers which led him to many witch doctors who made several charms for him. JUSTIN JUSTIN They also made incisions in his body where some of the diabolic powers were implanted. Justin Pius explained some of the charms inserted into him would allow him to slap a person and the person would not be able to get up, cause people to start eating grass until he used the charm in his foot to release them, allow him to hit someone and cause that area of their body to be torn open and become an open sore like cancer, to make demands for money or any other thing that would be granted and to be protected from bullets and blades. If he wore an occult ring, drew a gun on the floor and hit the drawing, a gun would physically appear and he would use it with his gang. He began robbing fellow students of their phones and valuables and then sold them in order to be able to buy cigarettes and alcohol. He was also fighting with his teachers and had begun to prepare charms for his fellow classmates and was looking forward to becoming a witch doctor. When he came with his family to The SCOAN, Wise Man Harry was used by God to arrest and deliver the evil spirit out of the young man’s life in the name of Jesus Christ. The evil spirit confessed all its evil deeds and plans in Justin’s life and was then cast out in the name of Jesus Christ. Justin came out to testify with his family that the evil thoughts had left him since the deliverance and his desire now was not for charms or evil power but for a relationship with Jesus and a new pursuit of his educational career. Truly, Jesus Christ receives repentant souls. The worst of sins can be forgiven! OBEY HIS INSTRUCTIONS – WISE MAN JOHN CHI WISEMAN JOHNCHI WISEMAN JOHNCHI The power of God demonstrated throughout the services this weekend prompted all who witnessed them to lay their souls under God’s influences and operations, taking the best course to secure themselves and, as Wise Man John Chi admonished the congregation in his message on Palm Sunday, to “OBEY HIS INSTRUCTIONS”. In Matthew 21:1-3, Jesus did not send His disciples to look around for a donkey. The Bible says He sent His disciples to a particular one that was tied at a specific place. This was an instruction in righteousness, an instruction in power, an instruction in confidence and the disciples obeyed. Obeying God at first seems hard until we come to see that all He asks is for our good and makes life full and free. The way of obedience is the way of a bright future. Obedience is the only proof of our faith in Him.

Get up and pray that you may not undergo the test.” 47 While he was still speaking, a crowd approached and in front was one of the Twelve, a man named Judas. We have heard it from his own mouth.” 23: 1 Then the whole assembly of them arose and brought him before Pilate. 2 They brought charges against him, saying, “We found this man misleading our people; he opposes the payment of taxes to Caesar and maintains that he is the Christ, a King.” 3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He said to him in reply, “You say so.” 4 Pilate then addressed the chief priests and the crowds, “I find this man not guilty.” 5 But they were adamant and said, “He is inciting the people with his teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he began, even to here.” 6 On hearing this Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean; 7 and upon learning that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod who was in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Herod was very glad to see Jesus; he had been wanting to see him for a long time, for he had heard about him and had been hoping to see him perform some sign. 9 He questioned him at length, but he gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and scribes, meanwhile, stood by accusing him harshly. 11 Herod and his soldiers treated him contemptuously and mocked him, and after clothing him in resplendent garb, he sent him back to Pilate. 12 Herod and Pilate became friends that very day, even though they had been enemies formerly. 13 Pilate then summoned the chief priests, the rulers, and the people 14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me and accused him of inciting the people to revolt. I have conducted my investigation in your presence and have not found this man guilty of the charges you have brought against him, 15 nor did Herod, for he sent him back to us. So no capital crime has been committed by him. 16 Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him.” 17 18 But all together they shouted out, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us.” 19 Now Barabbas had been imprisoned for a rebellion that had taken place in the city and for murder. 20 Again Pilate addressed them, still wishing to release Jesus, 21 but they continued their shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” 22 Pilate addressed them a third time, “What evil has this man done? I found him guilty of no capital crime. Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him.” 23 With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. 24 The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. 25 So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. 26 As they led him away, they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. 28 Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, 29 for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ 30 At that time, people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ 31 for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?” 32 Now two others, both criminals, were led away with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” They divided his garments by casting lots. 35 The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.” 36 Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine, 37 they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” 38 Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.” 39 Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” 40 The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? 41 And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” 44 It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon 45 because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. 46 Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this, he breathed his last. 47 The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified God and said, “This man was innocent beyond doubt.” 48 When all the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts; 49 but all his acquaintances stood at a distance, including the women who had followed him from Galilee and saw these events. 50 Now there was a virtuous and righteous man named Joseph who, though he was a member of the council, 51 had not consented to their plan of action. He came from the Jewish town of Arimathea and was awaiting the Kingdom of God. 52 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 After he had taken the body down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb in which no one had yet been buried. 54 It was the day of preparation, and the sabbath was about to begin. 55 The women who had come from Galilee with him followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb and the way in which his body was laid in it, 56 they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Lives were changed in a dramatic way and people on the verge of committing suicide were given hope! The church service was, as usual, preceded by the prayer line, after which Prophet T.B. Joshua addressed the congregation about some questions he had received from viewers about fasting. Talking about the necessity of being led by the Holy Spirit in all actions, he explained that when you are not adopted by the Holy Ghost and you are fasting, you are only doing it for yourself. Image Prophet T.B. Joshua Referring the people to 1 Corinthians 12, he said, “Jesus is Lord” can only be said with genuineness through truth and faith. He explained the difference between Christians and religious people, stating that Christians know Jesus came to restore the relationship and fellowship between God and man. He spoke of the importance of examining all things in the light of God’s Word. The Holy Ghost, he said, is the light in God’s Word. God’s Word refreshes our mind; God’s Spirit renews our strength. It is God’s power working through His Word and His Spirit that brings about what we are in Christ Jesus. He said we can convince people but we cannot convert people. It is the Holy Spirit who converts. He said that true Christianity is all about adoption by the Holy Spirit. A FETISH PRIESTESS AND HER FAMILY RESTORED During a previous Sunday Service, Wise Man John Chi was praying for the congregation when he encountered Mrs Lovelace Nyame, a Togolese based in Ghana. During the time of her deliverance, the evil spirit within Lovelace exposed her role as a fetish priestess and custodian of an assortment of charms in their village which had been neglected for many years. As she manifested during that service, the spirit spoke that she was born to serve it and it had tormented her for many years until she finally succumbed to take up the devilish role intended for her. The demon further announced that almost the entirety of the family, even those who were staying overseas, were afflicted with a mental problem because of their gross neglect of these charms and the house built for them in the village. To the glory of God, the demon was defeated and she pulled off her beads, which symbolised her status, and dropped them on the floor of the church before finally falling to the ground. Image Mrs Lovelace Nyame The following week, as shown in the video, Lovelace led the Emmanuel TV team to her ancestral home in Togo, where she showed them the shrine and the evil contents it contained. She had returned to the church with some of her family members to rejoice at her wonderful deliverance which had rippled through to the entire family. Mrs Nyame explained how she had refused to take up the role she knew was intended for her but continued to move from calamity to calamity to the point where she was actually dumb for three months until she finally accepted to become a priestess. She explained how she used to fetch sacred water in the midnight when nobody could see her and fill one of the ritual pots at the location of the shrine with its contents. Such water would be used to prepare charms for those who came to her with various problems and afflictions. Another put was full of ‘cowries’, an ancient form of money that she also used to invoke riches for those who came seeking financial help. As a result of her activities, she said that many people had been initiated into darkness. The family members rejoiced with her, testifying to the remarkable changes they had witnessed in her life since the deliverance. The prophet said the entire family would still receive prayer and congratulated them for the breakthrough. LIFE CHANGING! Next came the story of Pastor Ernest Davis and his wife from Lesotho. Having been delivered the previous week, the pastor had taken the Emmanuel TV crew to his church, Salvation Covenant Gospel Church Worldwide. It was a pitiable sight. The pastor was living in abject poverty, sleeping with his wife on the floor of the church and given just fourteen days to leave as his rent had expired. He explained how the once vibrant ministry had become a laughing stock with sometimes as little as six people in attendance at a Sunday Service. Unable to feed himself and his family and faced with the prospects of being sent out onto the streets, Pastor Ernest had actually hung a rope in preparation to commit suicide. It was in this mess that his wife, a keen viewer of Emmanuel TV when in Lesotho, encouraged him to visit The SCOAN for deliverance. Image Pastor Ernest Davis & wife Narrating his story to the moved congregation, Pastor Ernest explained how he was a first class degree holder in Marine Mechanical Engineering and had studied in Poland for over a year before returning to the position of a manager in his company in Nigeria. Things were smooth and he was accorded every privilege entitled to him as a manager, including his own house and a courtesy car. However, one day in his office, he heard a ‘voice’ calling him to leave his work and serve him. Confused and in inner turmoil, Pastor Ernest thought it was God’s call for him to abandon the work he loved and enter the ministry. Despite the qualms and discouragement of his work colleagues, he resigned and headed to theological school for training. After passing through Bible School, he worked with various ministries before establishing his own church. The first four years in his church had been progressive – miracles were happening and the church was filled to capacity every Sunday. However, he suddenly started encountering problems after getting married. His wife would publicly disrespect and embarrass him, eventually sending him out of their house with the relationship ending in divorce. In the midst of this, the church began to reduce and people’s interest continued to wane. With the crises deepening, Pastor Ernest met his current wife from Lesotho via the internet. Prophet T.B. Joshua described her as ‘a saviour’ to him, stating that if not for her intervention, Pastor Ernest would have prematurely ended his life in suicide. I love God and I knew that one day, He would make a day like this for us.” According to the prophet, the man needed to be rescued first and settled into a house with his wife and then God would be asked if the pastor should remain in His service or would return to his original work as an engineer. He used the opportunity to educate people, explaining that the pastors ‘call’ had actually come from the demon intent on destroying him. He explained, “It takes for the Holy Spirit to be sure of our dreams. Satan will keep asking, ‘By what authority are you doing things?’ ” Prophet T.B. Joshua said he would join the family before announcing to the congregation that he was supporting the couple with the sum of N1m. Falling to the floor in disbelief, Pastor Earnest and his wife could scarcely believe what was unfolding before their eyes. Calling on the congregation, he said that there was need for the couple to be given a 2 bedroom flat. Visibly moved by the charitable actions, a female member of the congregation came forward and passionately called on people to join Prophet T.B. Joshua in his crusade to touch humanity at large, proceeding to give the couple a whopping N5m! As an atmosphere of compassion pervaded the auditorium, members of the congregation also came forward to pledge various financial gifts to aid the total restoration of the couple. Prophet T.B. Joshua said, “This is why we are here – changing lives, changing nations, changing the world. We should contribute to build human beings, not cathedrals.” Glory be to God! EMMANUEL TV REMARKABLY REUNITES MOTHER AND SON! A video was replayed on the dilemma of Rosemary Ijeoma, a Nigerian who had gone to Libya for prostitution and had five kids for different fathers. During her deliverance, the evil spirit had spoken through her previously that it had completely destroyed her life and did not allow her to stay with any man. Image Rosemary Ijeoma & Children Explaining her story to the church, she said had paid $1,500 to the man who took her to Libya, and had to stay with a man there so as not to flout the laws of the land. However, after getting pregnant for the men she was staying with, a violent quarrel would erupt resulting in their separation. After giving birth to her first son, while Rosemary was still involved in prostitution, she decided to give her child out to a friend who was about to return to Nigeria. That was eight years ago. Rosemary explained that it was only after her deliverance that she began to realise one of her children was actually missing and began making frantic efforts to try and trace the whereabouts of her abandoned son, whom she said she would not even be able to recognise. Unknown to her, Divine providence was at work as the mother of her friend in Libya whom the child had been given to was watching Emmanuel TV when she gave her initial confession and realised that the child she had been taking care of the past eight years was the one in question! She decided to come to The SCOAN with the child to explain to Prophet T.B. Joshua and find out if he really was Ijeoma’s long lost son. Joshua told the congregation to rise to their feet and thank the mother of Mrs Ijeoma’s friend for the selfless love she had showed to a child she didn’t biologically own. The boy in question, Uchenna, had been sent to school and well looked after. The prophet then said the mind of God in this matter was for her to adopt the child, since “God made you to raise the child,” and would be fully supported by the church to do so. He said that the mother would also be given every support she needed from The SCOAN to take care of her remaining four children, including the provision of scholarships for their education. JOSEPHINE IWEKE: DELIVERED FROM POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS During The SCOAN Monday Service, a video was replayed showing Prophet T.B. Joshua prophesying to Josephine Iweke, last week. He prophesied that he saw her homeless to which she responded that the house she had built was burnt down by local ruffians in the area. At the service, the Imo State-born teacher, who was working with the Gwagwalade Federal Capital Territory (FUT) Education Authority, had come to narrate her story. Following Prophet T.B. Joshua’s prophecy, she had gone with the Emmanuel TV crew to Bako (where she was initially teaching at the Junior Secondary School) to show them her burnt house by an unknown man who had scaled the walls to pour petrol into her house through the windows. Since the house was burned, she had moved into a new school; she was transferred to the new school in Abuja by the Education Department of the Gwagwalade Area Council as it as felt her life was no longer safe in Bako. In the new school, she had the cooperation of the principal to sleep in one of the classrooms every day as she was homeless and had nowhere else to turn to. Isolated in a bushy environment, the lady had been staying in this helpless situation between January and August because of the problem of housing in her new place of assignment. The lady, in abject poverty and insecurity, only relied on rice and garri for her meals. Her moving situation which was shown on video to the congregation, inspired the people. Prophet T.B. Joshua announced that the sum of one million naira and three bags of rice would be given to her, on behalf of the ministry and Emmanuel TV. Among the congregation were people who made generous donations to assist the woman to the glory of God. SAVED FROM SEA PIRATES! Fonsah Richard, a Cameroonian, was travelling in a ship with over 700 other passengers on their way to Nigeria when the ship was waylaid by six armed pirate boats. The armed men’s intention was simple: to rob all the passengers on the large passenger ship. But Mr Richard, who was with a bottle of the Anointing Water, upon seeing the oncoming danger, began ministering the Anointing Water across the entire ship, petitioning God for Divine protection. Inexplicably, the sea pirates became blind to the loaded passenger ship they had targeted and turned in the other direction. The entire ship joined Mr Richard in thanksgiving to God, knowing that God had really sheltered them under the shadow of His protection through the ministering of the Anointing Water. Mr Richard said Jesus Christ is our Shelter in the face of storms and with Him, we have nothing to fear! DELIVERED FROM ADDICTION TO EATING HAIR! A video was replayed where a woman named Josephine Udoh had first come to The SCOAN with a terrible affliction: an addiction to eating hair all over her body for a shocking 23 years. The addiction had reduced her to a point where the hairs on her head had practically ceased from growing and she had to cover her head with a wrapper to curtail shame and embarrassment. When the urge to eat her hair came, Mrs Udoh could not control herself, explaining that she would be hearing a voice propelling her to continue in such inhumane acts. However, after opening up about her problem and receiving prayer from Prophet T.B. Joshua, everything changed! She proudly showed the congregation a full head of hair, evidencing her total freedom from the unnatural addiction. Mrs Udoh explained that since her deliverance several months ago, she had completely stopped eating hair and was now living a normal and happy life with her husband. PRAYER FOR FINANCIAL BREAKTHROUGH Scriptures: Proverbs 13:21, Deuteronomy 28:11, Philippians 4:19, Malachi 3:10, Isaiah 41:17-20, Isaiah 45:1-3 Our Lord Jesus paid too much of a price for us as believers and we cannot afford to live just anyhow. He shed His blood not just for our salvation but that we may live in victory in every aspect of our lives. We get into some undesirable situations most times due to our disobedience or carelessness. If you are a born again child of God, you are expected to pay your tithes (ten percent of your income) and offerings to the church you belong. If you don’t do this, God says you’re robbing Him and you invite a curse upon yourself. God may sometimes demand more than tithes and offering. He tends to demand more from you at that time when you feel what you have is insufficient for you. But if you obey just like the widow at Zarephath did, your oil will never run dry and that which is not enough will be turned into abundance in Jesus’ name. Have faith in God no matter how difficult it may seem, He will bail you out. At other times, the enemy tries to hinder our blessings from manifesting even after God has answered us. It took Daniel twenty-one days to receive his blessings (which God released the first day he prayed) due to the activities of the prince of Persia. Believers must prosper in order to affect the world around us. God has called us to be a blessing to others and take the gospel of Christ to the entire world. This will be difficult to achieve if we are poor. We cannot give what we don’t have. God has promised to prosper us and it must come to pass. If He can give His only begotten son to die for us while we were yet sinners, He sure can give us anything we need to fulfill our ministry. We need to be steadfast in our faith and also pray without ceasing until our miracle is birthed. Prayers: Every mountain of lack, be removed from my path in Jesus’ name. Every devourer assigned to my finances, be destroyed in Jesus’ name. Let the windows of Heaven be opened unto me in Jesus’ name. Let divine showers of blessing fall on me in Jesus’ name. Let all my stolen wealth be restored to me seven fold in Jesus’ name. By divine appointment, let me come face-to-face with those you’ve raised to bless me. Heavenly Father, let me find favor in your sight and in the sight of men in Jesus’ name. Whatsoever I may have lost to the enemy, I take back by force in Jesus’ name. You spirit of poverty, I put a stop to your activities in my life in Jesus’ name. Every lack in my life, be consumed by God’s overwhelming abundance in Jesus’ name. My prayer is that we will approach the subject with a very prayerful attitude of heart and mind, and genuinely seek God as to why more “dunamis” is not working in our lives. “But you shall receive power (“dunamis”) - ability, efficiency and might - when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends - the very bounds - of the earth” (Acts 1:8 , AMP.). “Now to Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or conceive, by the power (“dunamis”) which is at work among us . . .” (Ephesians 3:20 , NEB). The “dunamis” has already been given, but it is only beneficial when it is working - in US!! “Dunamis” is a Greek word and means: “act of power” (Young’s); “miraculous power, ability” (Strong’s); “natural capability, inherent power; capability of anything, ability to perform any-thing; then, absolutely, not merely power capable of action, but, power in action” (Bullinger’s). “Dunamis” is used 121 times in the New Testament and translated into the following English words: ability (1) power (77) abundance (1) strength (7) meaning (1) violence (1) might (4) virtue (3) mighty deed (1) wonderful work (1) mighty work (11) worker of miracles (1) miracle (8) and mighty (4) JESUS’ MINISTRY: Jesus was conceived in Mary’s womb when the “dunamis” of God came on her:The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power (“dunamis”) of God shall overshadow you; so the baby born to you will be utterly holy - the Son of God” (Luke 1:35 , TLB). An interesting extra thought here is that when the “dunamis” of God is working in our lives it will produce holiness unto God. The “dunamis” power of God sets God’s standard within us, so that all we do and are reflects back to God’s honour and glory. True “dunamis” deals with “sloppy” grace, undisciplined living, unbelief and hardness of heart, etc. Jesus was “declared to be the Son of God with power (“dunamis”), according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead: By Whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for His name” (Romans 1:4-5 , KJV).“ Dunamis” and holiness go together! Jesus functioned in wisdom (“cleverness, skill, a right application of knowledge” - Bullinger’s) and “dunamis”. Jesus came to minister the “dunamis” of God to fallen mankind. It was demonstrated through the doing of “mighty works.” In Matthew 11:20-23 (KJV) three times Jesus used the words “mighty works” (“dunamis”) as a measuring standard to rebuke the people for their unbelief. (The NIV uses the words “miracles”). (See also Luke 10:12-15 ). Yet, in the doing of the “dunamis” works in the cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum, those cities rejected their chance to repent and get right with God. They will face a future judgment because of their denial and rejection of the “dunamis” power of God. In this passage Jesus named three other cities - Tyre, Sidon and Sodom - and said to the Israelites that if those cities had had an opportunity to see and experience the “dunamis” of God in them, then they would have been spared and remained unto this day! Sodom would still exist! God’s judgments upon people, cities and nations is according to the “dunamis” and what they do (or do not do) with it! Let us not forget this. In Matthew 13:53-54 , 58, the Scripture uses the words “mighty works” to describe the “dunamis.” Jesus taught the people, who were astonished at His teachings. They said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” (“dunamis”) (NIV). (See also Mark 6:2 ). Verse 58 tells us His “dunamis” was limited because of the unbelief and lack of faith in the people! Unbelief is the killer of “dunamis” being released out of our lives!! When Jesus returned from His wilderness experience of being tempted by the devil - Luke 4:14 , 36, - He “returned in the power (“dunamis”) of the Spirit” (KJV) . . . “and the fame of Him spread through the whole region round about. And He Himself conducted (a course of) teaching in their synagogues, being recognized and honoured and praised by all” (AMP.). All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What is this teaching? With authority and power (“dunamis”) He gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!” And the news about Him spread throughout the surrounding area (Verse 36, NIV). JESUS WAS APPROVED BY THE “DUNAMIS”: He carried God’s “stamp of approval” on His life because of the “dunamis” that was working in and through Him: “You men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles (“dunamis”) and wonders and signs, which God did by Him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know:” (Acts 2 : 22, KJV). JESUS WAS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AND “DUNAMIS”: “You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached - how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power (“dunamis”), and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him” (Acts 10:37-38 , NIV). “And it came to pass on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem: and the power (“dunamis”) of the Lord was present to heal them” (Luke 5:17 , KJV). JESUS IS FAR ABOVE ALL OTHERS: “Jesus is far above all principalities (“the highest dignities; the first place; relates to the dignity of the position” - Bullinger’s), power (“exousia” meaning “delegated authority, privilege”)and might (“dunamis”), and dominion (“Lordship” - Young’s), and every name that is named . . .” (Ephesians 1:21 , KJV). THE “DUNAMIS” CAN BE SEEN: “ . . . the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works (“dunamis”) that they had seen” (Luke 19:37 ). Do people see our “dunamis” today? JESUS COULD FEEL THE “DUNAMIS” WHEN IT LEFT HIS BODY: Jesus knew when the “dunamis” went out of His body. (The KJV uses the word “virtue”; the NIV “power”): Mark 5:30 (Luke 8:43-48 ) - The woman with the issue of blood. She determined to press through the crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. But before she could do that she had to make a faith decision that if she would “reach out to Jesus” He would cause her to be made whole. Between her and Jesus were many people in the way. She had to press through the crowd, get them out of the way, and reach out to touch Jesus. She did, and she was healed! What stops us from releasing the “dunamis” from Jesus to us? People, that’s what. What stops us from releasing the “dunamis” power of the Holy Spirit out of our lives to impact and heal others? People . . . the fear of man, what others might say, etc. Luke 6:19 - “The whole multitude sought to touch Him (Jesus): for there went virtue(“dunamis”) out of Him, and healed them all” (KJV). Here’s another translation: “Everyone was trying to touch Him, for when they did, healing power (“dunamis”) went out from Him and they were cured” (TLB). TWO THINGS THAT CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO GO INTO ERROR: Jesus taught that there were two things that caused people to go into error: Not knowing the Scriptures Not knowing the power (“dunamis”) of God (Matthew 22:29 ; Mark 12:24 ). That, surely, must sober us up enough for us to ask ourselves sincerely: How well do I know the Scriptures? How well do I know the “dunamis” of God? If we want to keep our lives on that “straight and narrow path that leads to life” (Matthew 7:13-14 ), then we will certainly give priority to what Jesus said! What are we going to do about these two statements of Jesus? “For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of words but of power (“dunamis”)” (1 Corinthians 4:20 , GNB). JESUS DELEGATED THE “DUNAMIS” TO HIS FOLLOWERS: He gave it to the disciples and us! “He now called the Twelve together and gave them power (“dunamis”) and authority to overcome all the devils and to cure diseases, and sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal” (Luke 9:1 , NEB). “And now you see that I have given you the power (“dunamis”) to tread underfoot snakes and scorpions and all the forces of the enemy, and nothing will ever harm you” (Luke 10:19 , NEB). “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached (by us!) in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what My Father has promised: but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power (“dunamis”) from on high” (Luke 24:46-49 , NIV). (See also Acts 1:4 ). “But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power (“dunamis”) to testify about Me with great effect, to the people in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth, about My death and resurrection” (Acts 1:8 , TLB). Surely we cannot get it any clearer than that! The whole purpose of Jesus returning back to the Father in heaven was so He could multiply Himself and His ministry in His followers through the baptism of the Holy Spirit with (you guessed it!) “dunamis” power to make us effective! That “dunamis” works in the believers in varying ways. Some release “dunamis” more than others. But essentially it is over to us as to how much we are determined to release. As Ephesians 3:20 states, it is “according to the power that works within us.” In the Parable of the Talents, the talents were given out “to every one according to his ability” (“dunamis”) (Matthew 25:15 ). The more “dunamis” that is actively working in us, the more talents are likely to be released through us. THE DISCIPLES RELEASED THE “DUNAMIS”: The early Church functioned in the “dunamis”: “And with great strength and ability and power (“dunamis”) the apostles delivered their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace - loving kindness and favour and goodwill - rested richly upon them all” (Acts 4:33 , AMP.). Stephen released the “dunamis”: Acts 6:8 .* Philip released the “dunamis”: Acts 8:5-13 . THE APOSTLE PAUL MINISTERED POWERFULLY IN THE “DUNAMIS”: “Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds (“dunamis”)” (2 Corinthians 12:12 , KJV). “God did extraordinary miracles (“dunamis”) through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them” (Acts 19:11 , NIV). Paul’s own testimony was this: “And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the (Holy)Spirit and power (“dunamis”) [that is, a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them], So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power (“dunamis”) of God” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5 , AMP.). “To this end I labour, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully(“dunamis”) works in me” (Colossians 1:29 , NIV). His cry was: “That I may know Him, and the power (“dunamis”) of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death . . . “ (Philippians 3:10 , KJV). PAUL PRAYED ESPECIALLY FOR THE “DUNAMIS” TO BE WORKING IN US: Here is a selection of the things he prayed for the Christians: “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened(“made strong” - Young’s) with might (“dunamis”) by His Spirit in the inner man . . .” (Ephesians 3:16 , KJV), because as we read in verse 20, everything is “according to the power (“dunamis”)that is at work within us.” “ . . . do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge (“full knowledge; clear and exact knowledge; a knowledge that has a powerful influence on the knower” - Bullinger’s) of His will in all wisdom (“wisdom, cleverness, skill, etc.; a right application of knowledge” - Bullinger’s) and spiritual understanding; That you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing (“to make large, to receive increase, to grow, grow up” - Bullinger’s) in the knowledge of God; strengthened (the Greek word is “dunamoo” meaning “to make powerful” - Young’s; “to enable” -Strong’s) with all might (“dunamis”), according to His glorious power (the Greek word is “kratos” meaning “dominion, power, strength” - Young’s) . . . ” (Colossians 1:9-11 , KJV). “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power (“dunamis”) He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith” (2 Thessalonians 1:11 , NIV). Notice how the “dunamis” of God works when our faith is prompted into action. God is able to do anything and everything, BUT it is according to the “dunamis” that is actively working within US! (Ephesians 3:20 ). “DUNAMIS” WORKS ACCORDING TO THE HEARING OF FAITH: We came into a living relationship with Jesus by His grace and through faith (Ephesians 2:8 ). The only way we can please God is through faith (Hebrews 11:6 ). Faith comes to us through our ability to “hear the word of God” (Romans 10:17 ). Faith releases “dunamis”! Unless God gives us “the gift of faith” (1 Corinthians 12:9 ) to enable us to believe and function on a higher realm of faith, then we have to apply the faith in our hearts towards God’s promises, claiming the reality and fulfilment of them for our lives and ministries. “Dunamis” is released out of our lives as we act upon the promises and truth of God’s Word: “Tell me this one thing: did you receive God’s Spirit by doing what the Law requires or by hearing the Gospel and believing it? How can you be so foolish! You began by God’s Spirit; do you now want to finish by your own power? Did all your experience mean nothing at all? Surely it meant something! Does God give you the Spirit and work miracles (“dunamis”) among you because you do what the Law requires or because you hear the Gospel and believe?” (Galatians 3:2-5 , GNB). The answer, of course, is “we heard the Gospel and believed.” Paul says that it is exactly the same principle that releases God’s “dunamis” in our lives as well. “Hearing” and “Believing.”“Believing” means to “be persuaded, to rely upon, to trust. The New testament conception of faith is a fully convinced acknowledgment a self-surrendering fellowship, and a fully assured and unswerving confidence” (Bullinger’s). That is what the faith of Abraham (Romans 4 and Galatians 3 ) is all about. Out of that believing faith the “dunamis” of God is released. Who does the hearing? We do. Who does the believing? We do. Who does the releasing of faith? We do. Who carries the “dunamis”? We do.* Who has to learn how to release it more? We do. The Gospel is the “dunamis” of God unto salvation: Romans 1:16 ; 1 Corinthians 1:18 ; 1 Thessalonians 1:5-8 . In each of these Scriptures, the word “power” is “dunamis”. It is the “dunamis” that demonstrates the Kingdom of God (the speaking of words alone is not enough): “The Kingdom of God is not just talking; it is living by God’s power (“dunamis”) (1 Corinthians 4:20 , TLB). The Kingdom of God comes in power (Mark 9:1 ). John the Baptist came in the spirit and power (“dunamis”) of Elijah (Luke 1:17 ). That’s what made Elijah different. It was the “dunamis” at work through his life. “Dunamis” helps us to believe and abound in hope: “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power (“dunamis”) of the Holy Ghost” (Romans 15:13 , KJV). God’s will is that His “dunamis” power is actively working in every part of our life. It is the “dunamis” that sets us apart as being different from other religions, peoples and belief systems. Without it we cannot accomplish anything for the glory of God. THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Gifts of the Holy Spirit have to do with the “dunamis” of God. The gift of the Working of Miracles (“dunamis”) is an out and out spectacular working of God’s power (1 Corinthians 12:10 ).According to Paul the gifts operate through “dunamis”: “For this reason I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, His Spirit fills us with power (“dunamis”), love, and self-control. Do not be ashamed, then . . .”(2 Timothy 1:6-8 , GNB). In 1 Corinthians 12:28 where we have a list of God’s top eight priorities for the Church, miracles (“dunamis”) is listed at Number Four. All the ministries listed before it require the “dunamis” operating for them to be effective as well! “DUNAMIS” AND THE PLACE OF TRIALS AND SUFFERING: We often wonder why it is that so many good people seem to suffer such difficult and hurtful experiences as they go through life. Our belief systems try to tell us that living for Jesus “delivers” us from all the negatives of life. But that is not so. In fact the Bible clearly links suffering and difficulties as being necessary for the developing of “dunamis” in our lives and ministries: I will say this: because these experiences I had were so tremendous (Paul had been taken up into heaven for a visit), God was afraid I might be puffed up by them; so I was given a physical condition which has been a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to hurt and bother me, and prick my pride. Three different times I begged God to make me well again. Each time He said, “No. But I am with you; that is all you need. My power(“dunamis”) shows up best in weak people.” Now I am glad to boast about how weak I am; I am glad to be a living demonstration of Christ’s power (“dunamis”), instead of showing off my own power and abilities. Since I know it is all for Christ’s good, I am quite happy about “the thorn,” and about insults and hardships, persecutions and difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong - the less I have, the more I depend on Him (2 Corinthians 12:7-10 , TLB). “For though He (Jesus) was crucified in weakness, yet He goes on living by the power(“dunamis”) of God. And though we too are weak in Him [as He was humanly weak], yet in dealing with you [we shall show ourselves] alive and strong in (fellowship with) Him by the power (“dunamis”) of God” (2 Corinthians 13:4 , AMP.). God, in His wisdom, has chosen to reveal His power and glory through weak human vessels. The sooner we realize how weak we are, the quicker we will make progress. Jesus told us, “the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41 ): “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power(“dunamis”) may be of God, and not of us” (2 Corinthians 4:7 , KJV). GOD’S “DUNAMIS” KEEPS US THROUGH FAITH: We have seen throughout this study that “dunamis” is interlocked with several key graces in the Christian life, e.g. holiness, believing, hope, faith, resurrection, power, etc. It is very much a part of Christianity, so much so that without it we are reduced to a realm of powerless religious beliefs, which do nothing for the soul. Consider these statements: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power (“dunamis”) of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5 , NKJV). The “dunamis” of God gives us everything we need to live a God-honouring, God-glorifying life: “God’s divine power (“dunamis”) has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the One Who called us to share glory and goodness. In this way He has given us the very great and precious gifts He promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature . . . “ (See 2 Peter 1:3-12 , GNB). END-TIMES RELIGION AVOIDS THE “DUNAMIS”: In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 we are given an accurate description of the heart condition of mankind as we approach the end of the age. In spite of an increasing lawlessness and evil within the heart, people still retain “a form of godliness.” If we read on to the end of that verse we discover that they also “deny the power (“dunamis”) thereof” (KJV). The challenge to every one of us is to examine our own hearts to see whether or not we are measuring up to the standard of what a New Testament, Spirit-filled Christian really is. How effectively is the “dunamis” working in us?* Are we guilty of denying its power? What is our “dunamis” gauge reading?* Is it (1) Working powerfully? (2) Moderately? (3) Slightly? or (4) Not at all? The message to the Church in Philadelphia (Revelation 3:8 ) was that it only had a “little strength (“dunamis”).” WAIT UNTIL WE RECEIVE: Jesus taught us to “wait until” or stay where we were until we received the “dunamis” power from on high (Luke 24:49 ; Acts 1:4 ). Without the “dunamis” actively working in our lives we have no power or authority over our enemies, over sickness or disease, over doubts and fears. With life proving to be so busy and strenuous in these days, it is imperative that we Christians take time to come aside and wait upon the Lord to renew our strength (“power”) (Isaiah 40:31 ). A powerless Christian is a useless Christian. Powerless Christians cause a powerless church to stumble along in life hoping, praying, having a form of godliness, BUT . . . without the “dunamis” power of God! Once we have received that power (through the baptism of the Holy Spirit) we then should learn to activate and do whatever it takes to see the “dunamis” of God working in and out of our lives powerfully and effectively to the glory of God, and the advancement of His Kingdom! May the Lord help every one of us to discover how to release the “dunamis” out of our lives, so we can impact our generation for Jesus Christ and His Gospel! Amen.
